An Ithaca man faces assault, weapons and unlawful imprisonment charges after a stabbing investigation led police to a handgun with a defaced serial number.
Ithaca police said officers responded to Asteri Residential Tower at about 6:23 a.m. Sept. 14 and found a victim who reported being stabbed in the leg with a shard from a broken ceramic bowl inside an apartment.
The victim suffered lacerations that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to a local medical center for treatment.
Police identified Jeshua J. Lopez, 25, of Ithaca as the suspect and said a backpack found in the 200 block of West State Street during the investigation contained a handgun with a defaced serial number that belonged to him.
Lopez was charged with second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and first-degree unlawful imprisonment. Police said he was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail.
