Cornell IT groups expand peer collaboration on cybersecurity, AI and service management

Cornell University information technology employees are increasingly using internal special-interest groups to share practical approaches to common technical challenges across departments.

Recent discussions in the university's Service Management Special Interest Group focused on knowledge management, including how teams can make information easier to find, maintain and share.

The groups connect employees who work on similar issues but may be based in different colleges, departments or administrative units.

Cornell said participation has grown as more IT workers look for colleagues facing the same operational problems. Current topics include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, collaboration tools, audiovisual technology and service management.

The sessions are intended to help employees compare approaches, build professional networks and develop practices that can improve services beyond a single unit.

Organizers said the peer connections are a central part of the program, giving staff a way to continue exchanging ideas after individual meetings end.
