A Syracuse man was charged after corrections deputies said they found a lighter, glass pipe and green leafy substance in his possession at the Cayuga County Jail, where he was serving weekends.
The sheriff's office said jail staff alerted road patrol deputies to the suspected contraband at about 4 p.m. September 5.
Investigators identified the inmate as Christopher L. Stinson, 41, who was serving a weekend sentence following a petit larceny conviction in Auburn.
Deputies arrested Stinson at about 5:30 p.m. and charged him with second-degree promoting prison contraband, a class A misdemeanor, according to the sheriff's office.
He was arraigned at the jail's centralized arraignment court that evening. The release did not specify a further court date or disposition.
