A former correctional officer at Cayuga Correctional Facility has pleaded guilty to felony drug possession and prison contraband charges stemming from allegations that he brought cocaine into the state prison earlier this year.
Gregory Gorman, 30, of Moravia, pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court before Judge Steven H. Buschman to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class B felony; first-degree promoting prison contraband, a Class D felony; and official misconduct, a Class A misdemeanor, according to the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.
The charges stemmed from conduct in March 2026. Prosecutors said Gorman admitted possessing more than one-half ounce of cocaine and acknowledged that, while employed as a correctional officer, he knowingly and unlawfully introduced the drug into Cayuga Correctional Facility.
Gorman faces a determinate sentence of three years in state prison followed by two years of post-release supervision on the drug possession charge.
He is also expected to receive a concurrent indeterminate sentence of 1 1/3 to four years in prison for promoting prison contraband and a conditional discharge on the official misconduct charge.
Prosecutors said Gorman was required to resign from his position as a correctional officer with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and has already done so.
“This defendant betrayed the trust placed in him as a correctional officer and put the safety and security of our correctional facilities at risk,” District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci said. “Drugs have no place inside our correctional facilities, and we will continue to work closely with DOCCS and law enforcement to hold accountable anyone who attempts to bring contraband into our prisons.”
The case was investigated by the DOCCS Office of Special Investigations and prosecuted by Antonacci.
Sentencing is scheduled for November.
