Calvary Lutheran Church in Waterloo has named Pastor David P. Schultz as its new pastor, with his first Sunday service and installation scheduled for Sept. 27.
Schultz will move from Minnesota to the Finger Lakes with his family of six and will also serve Redeemer Lutheran Church in Auburn as part of the churches' dual-congregation ministry.
His first official Sunday service at Calvary Lutheran will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 27. An installation service and ceremony will follow at 4 p.m. that day, and both services will be open to the public.
Calvary Lutheran is located at 2414 State Route 414 along the line between the villages of Waterloo and Seneca Falls. The congregation recently marked its 75th anniversary.
Schultz brings several decades of ministry experience in the Midwest, according to the church's announcement. His work has included serving parishes in Minnesota, ministering to nursing home residents and working with Lutheran schools.
He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The seminary is one of two operated by the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and one of Schultz's sons is currently attending seminary.
Schultz has also worked with Lutheran ministries in Africa, traveling there for about one month each year to work with and encourage church communities. The announcement said those annual trips are intended to support Lutheran congregations and ministry work on the continent.
One of his current projects is helping a Lutheran library in Africa work toward international standards. The effort is designed to improve the theological and educational materials available to pastors, students and others involved in ministry.
Schultz's appointment begins a new chapter for Calvary Lutheran following its anniversary year. The congregation said it is preparing to welcome Schultz and his family to the Waterloo and Seneca Falls area.
Redeemer Lutheran Church, the other congregation Schultz will serve, is located at 10 Prospect St. in Auburn.
