The New York Mets (68-78) survived one of the wildest games of their season Wednesday night, surrendering an eight-run lead before erupting for six runs in the seventh inning and holding on for a 15-14 victory over the Miami Marlins (72-75).
New York’s victory was historic in several ways. The Mets became the first team in franchise history to allow 14 runs and still win, despite being out-hit 20-15. The game also marked just the fifth time the Mets have produced two separate six-run innings in the same contest.
The offense jumped on Miami early, scoring six runs in the second inning. A.J. Ewing and Brett Baty each delivered an RBI single, Luis Torrens doubled home two runs, Bo Bichette added an RBI single and Carson Benge drove in another run with a groundout.
Baty left shortly afterward after appearing to injure his leg while running to first base. Christopher Morel replaced him and immediately made an impact, launching a two-run homer in the third inning for an 8-0 lead. It was Morel’s first home run of the season.
Robert Stock held Miami scoreless through three innings before allowing three runs in the fourth. He finished with four innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out four and walking two.
The Marlins erased the entire deficit in the sixth, scoring five runs against the Mets’ bullpen to tie the game.

Miami continued to threaten late, but Tobias Myers recorded the final two outs after Nate Lavender allowed three ninth-inning runs to earn his second career save.
Ewing, Morel and Torrens combined for nine hits and nine RBI, while Morel finished a triple shy of the cycle.
The Mets are off Thursday before opening a three-game Subway Series against the Yankees on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Nolan McLean is scheduled to start for New York.
