Horseheads officials are reassessing planned Main Street improvements after two broken valves in Hanover Square disrupted water service and forced businesses to close, according to WENY.
Mayor Kevin Adams introduced the Main Street Renewed initiative at Thursday’s village Board of Trustees meeting.
The project predates the leak and initially focused on sidewalks, crosswalks and other areas used by visitors.
Officials are considering leak-detection equipment to identify underground problems before they become larger, more expensive repairs.
The village’s immediate priority is bringing in engineers to examine infrastructure beneath Hanover Square before finalizing renovation plans.
