Cornell University will host a three-day conference Sept. 10-12 focused on inequities in ocean and coastal research, policy and communities.
The Just Ocean and Coastal Futures Conference will bring 32 scholars and graduate students from across the country to Ithaca for presentations, workshops, roundtable discussions and several free events open to the public.
The conference is sponsored by Cornell's Center for Racial Justice and Equitable Futures and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Organizers said participants will examine past and present inequities affecting oceans and coastal areas at local, regional and global levels.
Public programming will include keynote addresses by scholars and practitioners and a documentary screening. Registration and individual event details are available through the Center for Racial Justice and Equitable Futures.
Amelia Moore, an associate professor of natural resources and the environment, said the gathering is intended to connect scholars working in the United States and abroad and encourage knowledge sharing across ocean and coastal studies.
