Ontario County deputies report warrant arrest in Farmington and larceny charge in Hopewell

Ontario County sheriff's deputies reported two unrelated arrests Aug. 25, including a warrant arrest near Routes 96 and 332 in Farmington and a shoplifting charge at the Hopewell Walmart.

Both defendants were taken into custody or issued court paperwork, according to separate Sheriff's Office releases.


Deputies make warrant arrest after fall report

Deputies responded around noon to a report that a man had fallen near the intersection of state Routes 96 and 332 in Farmington.

They identified him as Steven W. Irish, 60, who had an active bench warrant from Geneva Town Court, the Sheriff's Office said. Irish was taken to the Ontario County Jail for centralized arraignment.

Man charged in Hopewell Walmart theft

Deputies responded around 12:13 p.m. to a reported larceny at the Walmart at 4238 Recreation Drive in Hopewell.

John Gustav Schilbe Jr., 68, of Rushville, was accused of stealing merchandise valued at $427.15. He was charged with petit larceny and issued an appearance ticket for Hopewell Town Court.
