Federal disaster aid approved for Indiana storm and flood damage

Federal disaster assistance is now available for Indiana communities affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding that began Aug. 11 and remain ongoing, FEMA announced.

Funding for individuals is available in 21 counties and may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans for uninsured property losses and other recovery programs.

The individual-assistance counties are Carroll, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Porter, Pulaski, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union and Wayne.

Residents with losses should first file insurance claims, then apply at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA app or by calling 800-621-3362. People using a relay service should provide FEMA with the number for that service.

Federal cost-sharing aid for emergency work and repairs to damaged public facilities is also available to state, tribal and eligible local governments and certain nonprofit organizations in Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Porter, Tipton and Wayne counties.

Darrin C. Ricketts was named federal coordinating officer. FEMA said more areas could be added after further damage assessments.
