A Cornell professor and three recent graduates helped produce two sets of films for the new Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, including projects about military service and climate policy.
Jeffrey Palmer, an associate professor of performing and media arts, worked with former President Barack Obama and his advisers on “Stories of Service” and “Working to Preserve the Planet.”
“Stories of Service” follows six military members whose experiences include saving fellow soldiers, recovering from injuries and working to change military policy. The second project examines the Paris climate accords, Obama-era executive actions and environmental work that remains unfinished.
Palmer said Obama was closely involved in shaping the films and wanted the center to focus not only on his presidency but also on people who inspired him and worked alongside him.
Cornell graduates Gillian Harrill, Kassandra Nguyen and Jenny Zhang worked on archival production, storyboards and source-material management. Palmer said the climate film, which appears near the end of the museum experience, encourages younger visitors to continue the work.
