Bangs Ambulance workers have approved their first union contract after more than three years of negotiations with management, according to The Ithaca Voice.
About 85% of 33 eligible union members participated in the vote, with roughly 75% supporting the agreement reached in late May and ratified in early July.
The contract includes wage increases, lowers the weekly-hours threshold for health insurance eligibility from 48 to 40 and adds double pay for employees working shifts that fall below minimum staffing levels.
Union President Matt Sullivan said the agreement required significant compromises, including the loss of proposed extra compensation for specialty care transports and vacation accrual changes that may reduce time earned by some workers.
Union and management officials said they now hope to improve their relationship and address remaining concerns through the labor-management process.
