A man was sentenced Monday to 1 1/2 to three years in state prison for stealing more than 20 pairs of Meta glasses worth nearly $10,000 from a Target store in Victor.
Jose Gonzalez-Martinez received the sentence in Ontario County Court after pleading guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony, according to the Ontario County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said Gonzalez-Martinez stole the glasses, valued at $9,929.79, from the store on Jan. 24. He was arrested Feb. 10.
Ontario County Court Judge Gregory J. McCaffrey imposed the prison term. Gonzalez-Martinez was sentenced as a second felony offender, the district attorney's office said.
District Attorney Jason MacBride said the value of the stolen merchandise and Gonzalez-Martinez's status as a repeat felony offender were factors in the case. He said the sentence reflected the seriousness of the theft and the need to hold repeat offenders accountable.
Assistant District Attorney Paul Irving prosecuted the case. MacBride credited the Ontario County Sheriff's Office and Deputy Bassett for the investigation that led to the prosecution.
