The YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County is offering free group swim lessons for children through 2027, according to Tompkins Weekly. Registration opens Aug. 25 for YMCA Family Members, Aug. 28 for Youth Members and Sept. 1 for non-members.
The free lessons are for children ages 6 months to 12 years old.
Registration will be limited to one group lesson per session so more children can participate.
The YMCA also issued water safety reminders during National Drowning Prevention Week, including adult supervision, buddy swimming and life jackets for inexperienced swimmers.
The organization is preparing a $7.7 million aquatics center expansion and renovation funded through a state SWIMS grant and a planned community capital campaign.
