A Rochester man faces two felony charges after New York State Police said GPS data helped investigators recover an electric bicycle reported stolen from a Bloomfield residence.
William D. Nelson, 29, was charged Sunday with fourth-degree grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both Class E felonies.
Troopers responded June 6 after a resident reported an Aventon e-bike had been taken. Police said investigators tracked the bicycle using its GPS system, canvassed multiple areas and conducted follow-up interviews.
The investigation identified Nelson as the person allegedly possessing the stolen bicycle, according to police.
Nelson voluntarily went to the State Police barracks in Canandaigua on Aug. 9 and turned over the bicycle, police said. Investigators recovered it with damage.
Nelson was issued an appearance ticket and released. He is scheduled to appear in East Bloomfield Town Court at 4 p.m. Sept. 17.
State Police units in Canandaigua and Rochester participated in the investigation.
