Professional Women of the Finger Lakes has recognized Hobart and William Smith Provost Sarah Kirk for leadership, mentorship and efforts to expand opportunities for women.
Kirk received the recognition during the organization's annual scholarship fundraiser last month. The event also supported scholarships for local students, including incoming HWS student Mia Henry.
Kirk joined HWS in 2021 and serves as the college's chief academic officer. Her work has included developing graduate programs, reviewing and restructuring 36 academic programs, and helping redesign the general education curriculum.
An organic chemist, Kirk has also worked on National Science Foundation projects addressing barriers to retaining and promoting underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
She serves on the Geneva 2030 Executive Board and has participated in the HERS Luce Program, which supports women leaders in STEM.
