The Ontario County Chamber Foundation has launched its second ATHENA Give Back donation drive, collecting household and personal-care supplies through Nov. 5 for Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes.
New, unopened items may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce office, 113 S. Main St. in Canandaigua, or brought to the ATHENA Dinner on Nov. 5 at Finger Lakes Community College.
Safe Harbors provides free, confidential services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and human trafficking in Ontario, Seneca and Yates counties. Its services include advocacy, emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, legal support and prevention education.
Requested personal-care items include shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, deodorant and feminine hygiene products. The drive also seeks laundry detergent, dish soap, disinfectant wipes, all-purpose cleaner, kitchen garbage bags, storage bags and sponges.
Baby and children's donations may include diapers, wipes, diaper cream, baby shampoo, coloring books, crayons, bubbles and sidewalk chalk. A complete list is available from the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce.
The Give Back initiative is held in conjunction with the Ontario County ATHENA Awards, which recognize leadership, professional achievement and community service. Organizers said the project reflects ATHENA's leadership principle of strengthening communities by giving back.
Last year's inaugural drive raised more than $2,500 and collected hundreds of food items for local food pantries, according to the chamber.
