The New York Mets began their fire sale Thursday night, trading left-handed reliever A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for infield prospects Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani. Agbayani, the son of former Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani, and Amick rank No. 29 and No. 21, respectively, in Minnesota’s farm system, according to MLB Pipeline.
Minter, 32, departs after posting a 2.12 ERA across 36 appearances with the Mets dating to last season. With New York out of postseason contention, the veteran reliever had been viewed as one of the club’s most likely trade candidates.
Agbayani, a sixth-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, has batted .268 with a .412 on-base percentage and .342 slugging percentage at Single-A this season.
Amick, selected in the second round of the 2024 draft, has emerged as one of the Twins’ top power prospects, hitting 23 home runs this season at Double-A Wichita.
The move comes after the Mets dealt starter David Peterson in June, with veteran relievers Luke Weaver and Brooks Raley as well as starter Freddy Peralta also considered potential trade candidates before the deadline.
