A boat caught fire Monday on Cayuga Lake near Aurora, prompting a multi-agency emergency response and the rescue of an occupant who jumped into the water to escape the flames.
Emergency crews from Aurora, Union Springs, Cayuga Water Rescue and Auburn City Ambulance were dispatched to the area of Route 90 near MacKenzie-Childs after reports of a boat fire on the lake, according to Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire.
The person aboard the boat entered the water and began swimming toward shore before being picked up by a passing jet ski, which transported the individual to shore, according to updates posted by Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire.
Water rescue units from Cayuga and Union Springs responded to the scene, along with Auburn responders. Aurora Water Rescue crews arrived and began putting water on the fire as additional rescue boats reached the incident.
The fire was eventually brought under control, and responding units cleared the scene without further updates on injuries or the cause of the fire. Authorities have not released additional information.
