REPORT: Williamson Volunteer Ambulance in danger of closing, Town faces tough decision

Williamson residents are being asked to weigh options for the future of the town’s volunteer ambulance service, according to the Times of Wayne County. A Town Board-appointed EMS evaluation committee warned that Williamson Volunteer Ambulance Service is in danger of folding.

The committee presented three possible paths: Continue the contract with the local ambulance service, merge with Ontario Volunteer Emergency Service, or rely on Wayne County EMS.

The committee said the local service is facing a volunteer shortage and rising costs that current revenue sources cannot keep up with.

Residents received a mailer asking them to choose between 24-hour service, 18-hour service, or countywide service.

The committee hopes the Town Board will decide at its next meeting whether to continue the contract with the local ambulance service.
