Work is expected to begin this fall on a major revival of Pleasant Valley Winery in Hammondsport, according to the Ithaca Journal. Vine Enterprises plans to invest at least $47 million to restore operations at the historic Finger Lakes winery.
The project includes restarting processing and beverage manufacturing at the Urbana site, which closed last year after 165 years in business.
State officials said the company plans to hire 69 workers, bring back legacy brands, and reopen the historic Champagne Cellars.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $12 million in state support for the project, along with additional funding tied to New York wine marketing.
Pleasant Valley was founded in 1860 and is described by state officials as the first bonded winery in the United States.
