The Finger Lakes Land Trust is seeking $60,000 to purchase 300 feet of Canandaigua Lake shoreline for an addition to the Great Hill Nature Preserve.
The organization said it has a contract to acquire the shoreline parcel, which includes steeply sloping woods and habitat used by migratory waterfowl and bald eagles.
An anonymous donor has pledged to cover half the fundraising goal if the contribution is matched dollar for dollar, according to the Land Trust. The $60,000 would cover the purchase price and related transaction costs.
The 1.2-acre parcel would add shoreline to the preserve at Nundawao, or Great Hill, at the south end of Canandaigua Lake. The Land Trust said the site is revered by the Seneca Nation as the birthplace of its people.
The organization has previously acquired 255 acres of forested hillsides at Great Hill through land donations and purchases. A 1.75-mile trail loop crosses the preserve through stands of oak and hickory and offers seasonal lake views.
