A 62-mile section of U.S. Route 15 in northern Pennsylvania will officially become Interstate 99 on July 30, according to the Hornell Tribune. The change extends interstate designation south of the New York line after the Corning-to-border section converted in 2014.
PennDOT said the Federal Highway Administration approved the designation after the corridor met interstate design, safety and performance standards.
The section runs from Williamsport through Tioga County to the New York state line.
PennDOT has been modernizing U.S. 15 into a continuous limited-access highway since 1984.
The work included 34 projects totaling $480 million, with updated signage being installed before the July 30 designation.
