Starbucks App Not Working Today as Customers Face Ordering Problems Across the US

Starbucks’ mobile app went down across the country July 6, 2026, disrupting a familiar morning ritual for users of mobile order and digital payment. The first reports started coming in around 7 a.m. ET, and by 8 a.m. ET more than 1,700 users had reported problems. Customers haven’t been able to log in, mobile orders have frozen up and they’ve had trouble accessing their Starbucks Rewards accounts.

Mobile ordering challenges customers

The biggest problem for many customers was not being able to order until they were in the stores. And now, mobile ordering is part of the Starbucks experience. Users can personalize their drinks, choose their pickup location, pay within the app and collect their order without waiting in line.

Regular customers who had to make an order before heading to work or school had to change their plans because the app was not working correctly. Some users couldn’t log in, some had frozen orders and some couldn’t see Rewards information. The issue was particularly disruptive as it happened during the busy morning hours when demand for mobile ordering is usually at its highest.

Digital payments, rewards too felt the pinch

The Starbucks app is more than just a mobile menu. Use to save payment methods, manage your Starbucks card balance, earn stars, redeem rewards and order history. When the app goes down, all of these services are affected simultaneously.

If you’re worried that a payment didn’t go through, don’t keep trying the same transaction, over and over again, if the app is acting up. Once access is restored, check your order history and payment account to help confirm an order or payment actually went through.

Stores are still able to order for customers.

App outage is not the same as closing Starbucks stores. If mobile ordering is not available, customers can also order directly from the barista, use drive-thru locations or pay with other accepted payment methods.

Starbucks has used this tactic in past app outages, asking customers to order in person as digital systems are restored. Other stores may have other options but customers can call or stop by their local store to see if normal in-store service is still available.

Starbucks Depends More on Digital Ordering

The outage highlighted the importance of the app to Starbucks’ business and customer experience. The company also is adding more digital tools, such as scheduled ordering, where customers can select the time they want to pick up. Starbucks has also been working on technology to better coordinate orders from the cafĂ©, drive-through, mobile and delivery.

The upgrades are intended to make ordering faster and easier, but outages also show the downside of relying so heavily on one digital system. Login, ordering or payment features failing can affect thousands of customers in a short time.
