There really is nothing quite like Friday night baseball in Southern California. When the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres get together, you just know you are in for a good time.
This past Friday was no exception. Petco Park was absolutely rocking with a sold-out crowd, and San Diego fans went home completely hyped after watching their team crush the Dodgers 7-1.
If you fell asleep early or just missed the broadcast, don’t sweat it. Here is the quick rundown of how the Padres flipped the script on their biggest rivals.
LA Strikes, San Diego Answers
The Dodgers tried to take the wind out of the stadium early on. In the second inning, Mookie Betts did exactly what Mookie Betts does best—he got a hold of a pitch and sent it flying deep into the left-field seats. Boom. 1-0 Dodgers, just like that.
But let’s be real, the Padres were not about to roll over in their own building. In the bottom of that exact same inning, they punched right back.
With a couple of guys on base, San Diego launched a massive three-run homer. The stadium erupted. In the blink of an eye, the Dodgers’ early lead was gone, and the Padres were sitting pretty with a 3-1 advantage.
The Tense Middle Innings
The next few innings were just a grind. Both pitching staffs locked in, throwing heat and making the batters work for every single pitch. It was a classic rivalry dogfight.

Fast forward to the bottom of the eighth inning. The Padres were clinging to a 3-1 lead, and anyone who watches baseball knows a two-run lead against the dangerous Dodgers is never really safe. San Diego desperately needed some insurance.
Well, they got that and then some. The Padres’ offense suddenly caught fire against a worn-out LA bullpen.
A clutch two-run single up the middle got the party started. Then came a stinging RBI double to keep the line moving. Finally, Fernando Tatis Jr. stepped up to the plate and ripped an RBI single to put the cherry on top.
Just like that, a stressful nail-biter turned into a 7-1 blowout. The Petco Park crowd was on its feet, loving every second of it.
