Dryden officials are moving forward with discussions to combine three volunteer fire departments into a single district, according to Tompkins Weekly.
The proposed Dryden Fire District would merge the business operations and budgets of the Dryden, Freeville and Varna departments while keeping emergency response unchanged. Town officials hope to finalize key details before a January deadline.
If approved, voters would elect the district’s first fire commissioners beginning in 2027. Local officials say firefighters have expressed both optimism and uncertainty about the proposal.
