Search of Canandaigua Lake finds no evidence of reported victim

Emergency responders launched a search on Canandaigua Lake Wednesday evening after receiving a report that a person had gone underwater and failed to resurface near Deep Run.

The Cheshire Fire Department was called to the east side of the lake around 6 p.m. and deployed Marine 4 to assist in the response. Crews worked alongside the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Crystal Beach Fire Department and Canandaigua Emergency Squad to determine the reported victim’s last known location.

Using information provided by the caller, responders conducted a targeted search of the area. Marine 4 utilized onboard sonar equipment and searched the lake for approximately 30 minutes.

Despite the effort, crews found no evidence of a person in the water and no victim was located. Officials did not provide additional details about the report or what may have prompted the emergency response.

Following the incident, the Cheshire Fire Department reminded residents and visitors to wear properly fitted life jackets and make sure someone knows their location and plans before heading out on the water.
