The Seneca Falls Historical Society will host a presentation exploring the lives and experiences of Irish immigrant women who settled in Upstate New York during the 19th century.
The program, titled “GIRLS: Irish Immigrant Women in Upstate New York,” will be presented by Ciarrai Eaton, executive director of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation, at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Becker Mansion, 55 Cayuga St. in Seneca Falls.
Drawing from her master’s research, Eaton will examine the experiences of young Irish women who immigrated to the United States following the Great Famine. The presentation will also highlight connections between several Irish women and the Becker Mansion.
Artifacts related to the topic will be on display during the event.
The program will take place in the mansion’s dining room. Admission is $8 for Seneca Falls Historical Society members and $10 for nonmembers. Advance registration is encouraged but not required.
