Cayuga County men face felony charges after damaging vehicle

Two Cayuga County men face felony charges after deputies say they damaged a vehicle during a roadway altercation earlier this month in the Town of Aurelius.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office said Kyle M. Whiffen, 18, of Springport, and Lucas C. Brown, 19, of Auburn, were each charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony, following an investigation into the May 10 incident.

Deputies responded to the reported altercation around 12:13 a.m. on May 10 and determined the two suspects allegedly confronted a victim and damaged the person’s vehicle by breaking a mirror and rear window, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said both men later turned themselves in to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office. They were arraigned through CAP Court and released on their own recognizance.

Whiffen is scheduled to appear in Aurelius Town Court on June 3 at 7 p.m., while Brown was scheduled to appear May 27 at 7 p.m.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
