A Cayuga County man was sent to jail after deputies said he assaulted a woman and damaged her phone during a domestic incident that allegedly occurred in the presence of a child.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office said Kurtis N. Pearsall, 40, of Aurelius, was arrested May 18 following a domestic disturbance investigation at a residence in the Town of Aurelius. Deputies responded to the home shortly after midnight after receiving a report of a physical altercation.
According to investigators, a woman told deputies she had been involved in a physical dispute with Pearsall while a child under 17 was present in the home. Authorities also allege Pearsall damaged the victim’s phone during the incident.
Pearsall was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, and aggravated family offense, a felony charge tied to prior domestic-related convictions, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was arraigned through centralized arraignment and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail pending $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
