Canandaigua ZBA to review pole barn setbacks, second dwelling unit proposal Wednesday

The City of Canandaigua Zoning Board of Appeals will meet Wednesday night to consider two variance requests involving residential properties on Leicester and Gibson streets.

Board members are scheduled to review an application from Anthony Tripodi for property at 101 Leicester St., where he is seeking multiple area variances to build a 40-by-60-foot pole barn significantly closer to property lines than currently allowed under city zoning rules. The proposal would place the structure within 5 feet of the front, side, and rear property lines. Current zoning requires setbacks of 40 feet in the front yard, 15 feet on the side, and 30 feet in the rear.

The board will also consider a request from Leigh Cushing involving property at 79 Gibson St. The application seeks an area variance to establish a second dwelling unit above a detached garage, something currently prohibited under city zoning regulations governing accessory structures.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Hurley Conference Room at City Hall, 205 Saltonstall St. The meeting will also be available virtually through Zoom and livestreamed online.
