O’Connell Electric Company was recognized this week with the New York State Senate Empire Award during the 20th Annual Victor Business Awards at Ravenwood Golf Club.
State Sen. Pam Helming presented the award to O’Connell Electric President and CEO Michael Parkes, honoring the Victor-based company for its contributions to economic development, workforce growth and community support across the region.
The New York State Senate Empire Award recognizes businesses and nonprofit organizations that have made significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of New York communities.
Helming praised the company’s long-standing regional impact and continued investment in skilled trades and local communities.
“O’Connell Electric is exactly the kind of business that helps drive our local economy and strengthen our communities,” Helming said in a statement.
Founded in 1911, O’Connell Electric has grown into one of the nation’s larger electrical contractors, working on infrastructure, industrial, transportation, renewable energy and communications projects across several regions of the country.
The company has remained family-led for decades. Michael Parkes represents the fifth generation of electrical construction professionals in his family. His grandfather purchased the company in 1968, and his father, Tom Parkes, later served as president and CEO.
In addition to its business operations, O’Connell Electric has been active in regional charitable and workforce initiatives. The company has supported the Mary M. Parkes Center for Asthma, Allergy, and Pulmonary Care through financial contributions, volunteer work and donated electrical services.
During the 2024-25 holiday season, the company contributed to 12 nonprofit organizations and committed $75,000 to become the inaugural title partner of the Pluta Cancer Foundation’s Corporate Partners Program.
The company has also partnered with Sweethearts & Heroes to provide mental health and leadership programming for employees.
