The New York Yankees are reportedly set to promote top outfield prospect Spencer Jones from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Jasson Domínguez injured himself crashing into the left-field wall during Thursday’s 9-2 win over the Texas Rangers.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post first reported the Yankees are expected to place Domínguez on the injured list Friday, paving the way for Jones to potentially make his major league debut this weekend in Milwaukee.
Jones has emerged as one of the Yankees’ top offensive prospects, batting .258 with 11 home runs, 41 RBI and seven stolen bases in 33 Triple-A games this season. While strikeouts remain a concern, the 6-foot-6 slugger has shown improvement at the plate over the last several weeks.
Before Thursday’s game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Jones had started producing more consistent at-bats while cutting down on swing-and-miss issues that plagued him earlier in the year. Jones struck out 179 times in 116 games last season and already has 46 strikeouts this year.
The Yankees open a three-game series Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers, with rookie right-hander Jacob Misiorowski expected to start the opener for Milwaukee.
