Canandaigua school budget hike brings higher taxes and big vote ahead

A nearly $100 million school budget is heading to voters in Canandaigua, bringing higher taxes and new spending plans, according to the Finger Lakes Times. The proposed budget jumps by $4.4 million for the 2026–27 school year.

The Canandaigua City School District plan includes a tax levy increase of $1.4 million, raising the rate to $14.22 per $1,000 of assessed value. State aid is also expected to rise, helping offset costs.

Voters will decide May 19, with proposals covering new school buses and increased funding for Wood Library. School board seats are also on the ballot, adding stakes to the upcoming vote.
