Mets blank Giants for second straight win

The New York Mets improved to 5-4 with a 9-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night at Oracle Park, delivering a second straight offensive surge despite missing key bats from the lineup.

New York totaled 12 hits and jumped on Giants starter Landen Roupp early, scoring twice in the second inning on defensive miscues before steadily building the lead. Carson Benge reached on an error that brought in two runs, and Luis Torrens added an RBI groundout to make it 3-0.

The Mets extended the lead in the fifth with RBI singles from Bo Bichette and Mark Vientos before Tyrone Taylor delivered the decisive blow. Pinch-hitting in the inning, Taylor launched a three-run home run to push the lead to 8-0. He later added an RBI single in the seventh and finished 2-for-3 with four RBI.

The bottom half of the lineup fueled the offense, with hitters four through nine accounting for 10 of the team’s 12 hits. Brett Baty and Vientos combined for five hits and four runs scored.

Clay Holmes dominated on the mound, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing three hits and two walks. He induced consistent weak contact, including 11 groundball outs. Tobias Myers followed with two scoreless innings to complete the shutout.
