The Buffalo Sabres mounted a third-period comeback but fell 6-5 in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday at Honda Center, settling for a point while extending their franchise-record road streak.
Buffalo (44-20-7) erased a two-goal deficit entering the third period, scoring three times in a 6:57 span to take a brief lead. Jack Quinn, Owen Power, and Zach Benson fueled the surge as the Sabres turned momentum in their favor after trailing 4-2. Alex Tuch and Josh Doan also scored earlier in the contest, while Rasmus Dahlin contributed two assists to anchor the offense.
Anaheim answered late, tying the game on a power play with its goaltender pulled for a 6-on-4 advantage. The Ducks completed the comeback 1:29 into overtime on a breakaway goal, denying Buffalo a full two points.
Goaltender Alex Lyon made key stops throughout but saw his 10-game road winning streak snapped, falling one victory short of matching the NHL record. Despite the result, Buffalo maintained its four-point lead atop the Atlantic Division after the Tampa Bay Lightning also lost in overtime Sunday.
The Sabres’ point streak on the road reached 14 games (12-0-2), making them the 16th team in NHL history to achieve the mark. Buffalo closed its four-game Pacific Division trip with seven of a possible eight points.
The Sabres return to KeyBank Center to open a four-game homestand on Wednesday, hosting the Boston Bruins at 7:30 p.m.
