Police investigate threat at Cayuga Community College

Police are investigating a reported threat at Cayuga County Community College’s Auburn campus early Tuesday.

The Auburn Police Department said it was notified of the possible threat during the early morning hours of March 4.

The reported threat was directed at the Cayuga Community College campus at 197 Franklin St., according to the department’s media release.

After beginning the investigation, Auburn police contacted college officials and notified them of the situation. Police also informed the Auburn Enlarged City School District because of the campus’ proximity to Auburn Junior High School.

Authorities emphasized the threat was directed toward the college campus and not the school district.

Police said they are still working to determine the validity of the threat.

Investigators also addressed rumors circulating about someone being seen near the campus, stating those reports are not true.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Auburn Police Department Detective Bureau.
