An upcoming exhibit at Hobart and William Smith Colleges is turning attention to a part of artwork many people overlook — the frame, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The exhibit, “Art of the Frame: Ornament and Meaning,” opens March 5 at the Davis Gallery and runs through April 11. HWS students Erin Hulburt and Taylor McDermott curated the show, which explores how frames reflect the artistic styles and cultural influences of their time.
The exhibition features about 20 pieces from the HWS Art Collection. Organizers say the goal is to help visitors see frames not just as supports for paintings, but as artworks with their own stories.
