Deputies: Clyde driver had BAC over twice legal limit after crash

A single-car crash on Pilgrimport Road in Lyons led to drunken driving charges after deputies found the driver in a ditch Sunday afternoon.

Matthew J. Grafton, 31, of Fox Road in Clyde, was arrested following the investigation, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 1:36 p.m. to a report of a vehicle off the roadway. Authorities said Grafton, the sole occupant, told deputies he swerved to avoid a deer and left the road, ending up in a ditch.

During the investigation, deputies determined Grafton was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Deputies transported him to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, where he submitted to a breath test that recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.20%.

Grafton was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a BAC of 0.18% or greater, driving while intoxicated, and moving from a lane unsafely.

He was processed at the sheriff’s office and taken to the Wayne County Jail for fingerprints and photographs before deputies released him to a third party.

Grafton is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date.
