Ithaca’s West End housing wins re-approval

After years of redesigns and debate, a scaled-back West End apartment project just cleared a major hurdle, according to The Ithaca Voice. The City of Ithaca Planning Board voted 4-0 to re-approve “The Citizen,” now a four-story, 59-unit mixed-income building at 602 W. Buffalo St.

Developers shrank the project from five stories and added new screening, landscaping and safety tweaks. Board members pressed the team on management and tenant support, citing past issues at other affordable complexes, but ultimately signed off.

The board also advanced revisions to “The Hive” on Cherry Street, opened review of a new eight-story Collegetown project at 309 College Ave., and backed site upgrades for Finger Lakes ReUse. Several projects return next month.
