Ithaca’s last neighborhood pharmacy closing

Customers drifted into Kinney Drugs in Fall Creek like mourners at a wake, according to The Ithaca Voice. The longtime pharmacy at 513 North Cayuga Street will close for good at 6 p.m. March 5, ending decades of service at the location.

Kinney executives told staff the store hasn’t turned a profit in years and chose not to renew the lease. The employee-owned company said it made the decision to protect its long-term health. Workers will transfer to other locations, mostly the Triphammer Road store.

Neighbors and city leaders say the loss leaves Ithaca without a pharmacy in a walkable residential area. Many customers praised the staff’s personal service and now face switching to chains, mail order, or traveling farther for prescriptions.
