With its landfill set to close in 2028, Ontario County is doubling down on recycling programs, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Supervisors on the Planning & Environmental Quality Committee approved contracts to continue tire, mattress, shredded paper and backyard composting programs. Casella Waste Services will handle three tire collection events for $17,000 and mattress recycling for up to $16,000 through Dec. 31. Stericycle’s Shred-It will manage document shredding from March 2026 to February 2027.
The county also renewed a $30,000 contract with Enviro World Corp. to offer discounted backyard composting equipment. The measures now head to the full Board of Supervisors for final approval.
