Early mornings, shared meals, and reflection will once again mark the Lenten season in Sodus.
The Sodus Council of Churches has announced its 2026 Lenten Breakfast series, which begins February 18 and runs through April 1 at Sodus United Third Methodist Church.
The breakfasts start at 8 a.m. each week and cost $5. Organizers say this year’s theme focuses on Lent as a period of self-reflection.
Each week features a different church or community group preparing the meal, along with a guest speaker.
The schedule begins February 18 with breakfast prepared by St. John’s Church and remarks from Priest Mary Ann Brody. On February 25, Sodus Lions Pride will cook, with Bobbie Valentine speaking.
The series continues March 4 with the Presbyterian Church and Rev. Gail Heimberger, followed by the Town of Sodus on March 11 with speaker Ed Kohlmeier from Epiphany. The First Reformed Church hosts March 18 with Steve Wickman, and the Methodist Church follows March 25 with speaker JD Freer.
The final breakfast on April 1 will be prepared by St. Maximillian Epiphany Parish, with Pastor Joseph Smythe speaking.
Lenten Bible studies will be held after each breakfast in the church lounge at Sodus United Third Methodist Church. Rev. Gail Heimberger will lead the studies.
Several additional services and events are also scheduled throughout the season. A Shrove Tuesday dinner will be held February 17 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at St. John’s. Ash Wednesday services take place February 18 at Epiphany at 8 a.m., and at St. John’s at noon and 5:30 p.m.
Holy Week services include Palm Sunday on March 29 at all churches. Maundy Thursday services are set for April 2 at 6 p.m. at both the Reformed and Presbyterian churches. A Good Friday procession begins April 3 at noon from the municipal parking lot to the Methodist Church, followed by services at 12:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church and 5:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church.
Holy Saturday’s Easter Vigil will be held April 4 at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva. Easter Sunday services take place April 5 at all churches.
