Deputies determined the driver left the roadway and struck a utility pole, causing damage to both the vehicle and the pole. NYSEG responded to the scene to address the damage.

Investigators identified the driver as Kenneth C. Niles, 35, of Phelps. Deputies said he operated the vehicle while intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Niles was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree. He was transported to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.

Phelps Fire Department and Finger Lakes Ambulance also responded to the scene. Niles is scheduled to appear in Phelps Town Court at a later date.
