Bitter cold shut down Phelps’ first-ever Frozen Festival just days before it was set to begin, according to organizers. They pulled the plug as forecasts showed wind chills dropping near -20 degrees, raising safety concerns for families and volunteers.
The Phelps Winter Frozen Festival was scheduled for Feb. 6–7 and aimed to kick off a new seasonal tradition. Plans included train rides, outdoor skating, and an igloo-style attraction with games, kids’ activities, and date-night treats.
Phelps NY Happenings shared the decision online, stressing that protecting the community came first. Organizers said they hope to bring the event back when conditions improve.
