Wells College moves to sell properties

Seven off-campus buildings tied to a shuttered college could soon change hands as part of a court-approved wind-down, according to The Citizen. Wells College is asking Cayuga County Court to approve sales totaling about $2.8 million.

The deals include the Paul Jones House, sold to the Paul Jones House Preservation Alliance, and two properties purchased by alumna Pleasant Rowland. Several other homes and apartments in Aurora are also under contract with private buyers.

The college says the properties cost too much to maintain and aren’t needed as it dissolves operations. Proceeds will cover expenses, with any leftover funds going to charities. A court conference is set for Feb. 24.
