State troopers responded late Monday night to a report of domestic violence at a Village of Shortsville home after a woman reportedly lost consciousness during an assault. Troopers out of Canandaigua arrived around 10:42 p.m. at a residence on East Avenue.
Investigators said an argument broke out after the couple had been drinking at the woman’s home. Troopers later arrested Zachery Vandenbuss, 47, of Newark, in connection with the incident.
Police said Vandenbuss allegedly grabbed the woman, struck her, and pushed and slapped her to the ground. Authorities reported the woman became unconscious during the assault, broke her glasses, and suffered sore ribs and scratches.
Vandenbuss was charged with assault in the third degree and criminal mischief in the fourth degree. Troopers transported him to the Ontario County Jail for CAP Court arraignment before releasing him to appear in court at a later date.
