Steuben County lawmakers will tackle several jail-related decisions before their next full legislative meeting.
Two special committee meetings are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26, just minutes before the regular session, according to a notice from the county clerk’s office.
The meetings will focus on funding approvals and agreements tied to the county jail and sheriff’s office.
At 9:50 a.m., members of the Public Safety and Corrections Committee and the Finance Committee will meet jointly.
Lawmakers plan to consider awarding a bid for a fire panel project at the jail.
They will also vote on transferring $67,000 from the Public Safety Building Reserve to cover equipment costs for that project.
The joint committee will also review a bid for countertop replacement in the jail’s booking area.
That item includes a proposed $9,000 transfer from the same reserve fund to pay for the work.
A second meeting follows at 9:55 a.m., when the Public Safety and Corrections Committee meets on its own.
The committee will review an inter-governmental agreement related to housing federal inmates at the county jail.
Both meetings will take place in the Legislative Chambers on the third floor of the Annex Building in Bath.
The county will also stream the meetings by webinar for remote access.
