Newark picked to host Special Olympics

Newark schools will welcome hundreds of athletes this spring after landing a major regional event, according to WayneTimes.com. The Newark Central School District will host the Wayne Finger Lakes Track & Field Special Olympics on May 29.

The event runs in partnership with Special Olympics New York and is expected to draw nearly 1,000 student-athletes from dozens of districts. Competitions range from sprint races and field events to wheelchair and motor development activities.

Organizers say thousands of spectators and more than 150 volunteers supported last year’s event. The district is now seeking volunteers to help make this year’s games a success.
