Veterans gather for holiday support night

A pizza dinner in Waterloo brought local veterans and their families together for an evening focused on connection and support.

Seneca County hosted a holiday gathering through the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program on Dec. 18 at Ciccino’s Pizzeria & Restaurant. More than 80 veterans and family members attended the buffet-style event.

The county coordinated the gathering as part of its ongoing effort to support veterans adjusting to civilian life. Peer Support Specialist David Hanselman organized the event.

County officials said the Dwyer Program centers on veteran-to-veteran support. The program aims to reduce isolation and strengthen ties among veterans and their families.

“Events such as the holiday gathering provide a welcoming space for veterans and their families to build relationships, reduce isolation, and strengthen community ties,” said Seneca County Director of Veterans Services Bridget Saunders.

The Dwyer Program operates as part of a statewide initiative honoring the legacy of PFC Joseph P. Dwyer. The program supports veterans, service members, and families through peer-based services and community engagement.

County officials said additional Dwyer Program events are planned and posted through the Seneca County Veterans Services Office website.
